US President Donald Trump says he has rejected Iran’s proposal to open the Strait of Hormuz within seven days and end the war in the Middle East.
It should be noted that during the UN General Assembly session, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented a “seven-day plan” to open the Strait of Hormuz and restore talks with the United States.
Speaking to journalists in New York on Friday, the Iranian foreign minister presented this seven-day plan containing new proposals, which he called a continuation of the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding”.
The Iranian foreign minister said that if Washington accepts and implements the conditions set out in the plan, the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened at the end of the seven-day period.
Abbas Araghchi said most points in these proposals are the same as those in the 14-point memorandum of understanding agreed between Iran and the United States in June.
However, speaking to journalists at the White House on Saturday, Donald Trump said: “I have rejected their proposal… I have rejected their deal.”
According to the international news agency Reuters, the US president said: “They want to make a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz immediately because they are losing very badly.”
“They want to make a deal, and I think that’s fine, I want to make a deal too. But they want to open the Strait of Hormuz right away… because they’re not getting any money, because all their income comes from the Strait of Hormuz.”
