According to the Saudi civil aviation authority, three people, including two women, were killed and 36 injured in attacks on Abha International Airport and Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport.

The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation said the facilities of both airports were targeted in attacks on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, 6 and 7 October. In the attack on Abha airport, two women of Moroccan and Algerian nationality were killed and 28 people injured.

Besides Saudi citizens and residents, the injured include Bangladeshi and Filipino nationals. According to the authority, the injuries range from minor to serious.

In the attack on King Khalid International Airport, a Sudanese national was killed and eight people injured.

The injured include five Saudi citizens, two Egyptian nationals and one Pakistani national. All the injured were immediately taken to hospital, while both attacks also caused material damage.

The Saudi civil aviation authority said the damage is being assessed together with the relevant security agencies and all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of passengers and staff.

Earlier, on 6 October, the Houthis claimed they had carried out three military attacks in Saudi Arabia, targeting Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, an Aramco oil refinery in Rabigh, Abha International Airport and a military base in Khamis Mushait. However, the Saudi civil aviation authority’s statement did not blame any group for the attacks.
