The protest camp against enforced disappearances in Balochistan, set up by Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) outside the Quetta Press Club, continued today on its 6,401st day.

According to a statement issued by VBMP, the organisation’s chairman, Nasrullah Baloch, appeared before the commission today with the family of Sudais in the case of the extrajudicial killing of forcibly disappeared Muhammad Sudais Langove.

On the order of Justice Amanullah Pasinzai, head of the commission’s Balochistan chapter, an FIR was ordered to be registered against a CTD DSP, an SHO and other personnel in the matter of the alleged extrajudicial killing of Muhammad Sudais, and the personnel concerned were ordered to be arrested.

The commission’s judge directed the SHO of Civil Lines to record the statements of Sudais’s family, ensure legal action against the officials responsible and submit a report to the commission within a week.

The commission’s judge also ordered the administration to exhume Muhammad Sudais’s grave and hand his body over to his family, so that they can rebury him with dignity and respect.

According to the family, Sudais was forcibly disappeared by security forces from Killi Ismail, Quetta, on the night between 19 and 20 May this year, and was killed in a fake encounter along with six other people on 20 August.

VBMP chairman Nasrullah Baloch called the commission’s orders in Muhammad Sudais’s case a positive development, saying the organisation appreciates the step. According to him, the rule of law and such steps will increase public trust in the institutions that provide justice to citizens, which will have a positive effect on the whole of society.

Nasrullah Baloch said he hopes the commission will play its role effectively in Muhammad Sudais’s case, bring those responsible to justice and help ensure that the affected family receives justice under the law of the land.

He also expressed the hope that the commission will play its role in ending enforced disappearances, preventing incidents of alleged extrajudicial killings of missing persons, and recovering all forcibly disappeared persons.
