A three-day book stall organised by the Baloch Students Organization Pajjar, Shaal zone, continued on its second day at Government Postgraduate College Sariab, where college professors, teachers and students took part in large numbers and bought books of their choice.
The aim of the book stall is to promote reading among young people, create a love of books and make them aware of the importance of knowledge and awareness.
BSO Pajjar provincial general secretary Shay Mureed Rasheed Baloch and the deputy organiser of the Shaal zone attended the book stall as special guests, while Postgraduate College unit secretary Hamid Hussain Baloch and information secretary Jameel Baloch were managing the stall.
On this occasion, BSO Pajjar leaders said the organisation’s basic aim is to promote a book culture among the youth of Balochistan and to draw them towards knowledge, wisdom, awareness and positive political and social activities. In today’s modern age of knowledge, only those nations progress that make education, research, reading and intellectual freedom their priorities. A book is not merely a means of obtaining information; it plays a fundamental role in a person’s intellectual training, the development of awareness and social change.
Expressing concern about the current situation in Balochistan, the leaders said that on the one hand young people need educational facilities, libraries and positive activities, while on the other, the growing trend of drug use has put the future of the young generation at serious risk.
Instead of increasing the number of libraries and centres of learning in Balochistan, the spread of drug dens is a worrying situation. This problem cannot be countered with statements alone, but through educational opportunities, awareness and involving young people in positive activities.
They added that the Baloch Students Organization Pajjar believes young people are the precious asset of any nation, and giving the right direction to their abilities is the shared responsibility of society. For this purpose, the organisation will continue to hold book stalls and other academic activities in educational institutions across Balochistan, to connect young people with books and play its part in keeping them away from drugs and other negative activities.
BSO Pajjar leaders appealed to male and female students, teachers and the youth of all nations living in Balochistan to play their part in promoting a book culture and to take full part in educational and academic activities. They said that to build an educated, aware and progressive Balochistan, young people must be introduced to the power of books, the pen and knowledge.
National Party central leader Agha Gul and Professor Lala Munir Baloch attended as special guests, encouraged the leaders of the Baloch Students Organization Pajjar and also bought several books from the stall. National Party central leader and well-known writer Agha Gul gave books as gifts to BSO Pajjar provincial general secretary Shay Mureed Rasheed Baloch and Shaal zone deputy organiser Ismat Baloch.
