The foreign ministry of Afghanistan’s Taliban government says it summoned Pakistan’s chargé d’affaires in Kabul today and handed him a protest note.
According to the foreign ministry, the protest was over “subversive armed elements” crossing the Durand Line and entering Nuristan.
It should be noted that clashes between Taliban government forces and opposing armed groups had recently been reported in the Afghan provinces of Nuristan and Kunar, which border Pakistan.
The Taliban government had alleged that the fighters came across the Durand Line (the Pakistan-Afghanistan border) and had Pakistan’s backing.
Afghanistan’s defence ministry had alleged that 28 people were killed and 32 arrested during an operation near Kamdesh district in Nuristan province, and also claimed they had been trained by Pakistan and sent to Afghanistan for sabotage.
However, Pakistan’s ministry of information and broadcasting rejected these allegations, saying claims linking Pakistan to alleged violence or security operations in Afghanistan’s Nuristan province are baseless and contrary to the facts.
