Five members of the Revolutionary Guards were killed when a roadside bomb exploded near Zahedan in Western Balochistan.

According to Iranian media, citing the Revolutionary Guards ground forces’ south-eastern Quds Headquarters, the blast near Zahedan occurred on the road as a security convoy was passing.

The attack came after recent clashes in the area in which security forces claimed to have killed several armed men.

However, the statement did not name any organisation.

The statement added that operations will continue to identify, pursue and arrest those responsible for the attack.

A Turkish news agency, citing Iranian officials, had also confirmed the death of one member of personnel and the roadside bomb blast.

Meanwhile, Iran International, citing local sources, claimed that five members of the Fatemiyoun militia, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, were killed in an attack near Zahedan.

It should be noted that armed clashes and security actions have increased in Western Balochistan in recent days.

Iranian officials had also claimed on Thursday to have killed 6 armed men in a raid.

In this regard, a recent statement by the Quds Force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said “they have tracked down and eliminated a ‘terrorist group’ involved in recent attacks in the country’s important province of Sistan and Baluchestan.”

Iran’s state news agency IRNA, citing the Quds Force’s public relations, said “two members of the group were killed in the action, while the search for the others continues.”

According to the Revolutionary Guards, this “takfiri group” had previously killed Baloch Sunni member Abdul Rauf Ishaqi and also attacked a checkpoint in the town of Rask.

On Thursday, Iranian news agencies reported that “a police officer was killed during an armed attack on a checkpoint in the town of Rask in Sistan and Baluchestan.”
