The Makran regional office of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) in Turbat has expressed deep concern over the alleged disappearance of young Waseem Abdul Nabi from the Nazarabad area of Tump and demanded his immediate and safe recovery.

A statement issued by HRCP Makran said enforced disappearance, by whatever force it is carried out, is unacceptable. In such incidents, the victim’s entire family suffers severe mental torment, fear and uncertainty along with the victim. Protection against enforced disappearance is an important requirement of international human rights law.

The statement said all relevant parties, including state institutions and armed organisations, must respect the basic human rights of ordinary citizens and must not subject citizens to any kind of violent action, illegal detention or other human rights violations.

According to HRCP, Waseem Abdul Nabi’s family say he is a peaceful citizen, a grocery shopkeeper and a well-known sportsman. He normally works at his shop in the morning and takes part in social and sporting activities at other times.

The statement added that Waseem Abdul Nabi’s disappearance has caused deep concern among his family and the people of the area.

HRCP Makran appealed to the relevant parties that, if Waseem Abdul Nabi is in anyone’s custody, he be released immediately and safely on humanitarian grounds, in keeping with the principles of international human rights, so that his family’s distress can end and the concern in the area can be addressed.
