The first death anniversary of Shaukat Buledi Baloch, founder and chief editor of Sangar, is being marked tomorrow, 5 October. The valuable services that Shaukat Buledi, who passed away untimely on 5 October 2025, rendered in the fields of Baloch journalism, national identity and intellectual awareness have become a golden chapter of history.
Sensing the deep void in the Pakistani media regarding Balochistan’s problems, human rights violations and national oppression, Shaukat Buledi laid the foundation of Sangar in 2009. His main aim was to bring the real situation in Balochistan before the world without any censorship and to make the Baloch nation intellectually and politically organised and informed.
Shaukat Buledi formally launched the “Monthly Sangar Magazine” in January 2012 and published several informative and intellectual books. However, after 2015, printing was suspended when forces raided the printing press in Karachi and sealed it. Despite this severe state pressure and restrictions, Shaukat Buledi did not lose heart and moved Sangar to digital media (a website).
Despite exile, illness, security threats, severe financial difficulties and continuous cyber attacks, Shaukat Buledi did not let the Sangar caravan stop. He presented journalism not merely as a means of reporting news but as a front for the ideological and political education of a nation. Under his leadership, “Sangar Publications” continued to publish PDF books and online material.
Shaukat Buledi is no longer physically with us today, but the institution he founded in the form of Sangar and his vision will live on forever as the voice of the Baloch nation.
