The Baloch Students Organisation (BSO) Azad paid glowing tribute to Shaukat Buledi, founder and chief editor of the Sangar Media Group and a prominent political and intellectual activist, on his first death anniversary, urging Baloch journalists to follow in his footsteps and play their role in the national struggle.

According to the reflective tribute statement issued by BSO Azad, Shaukat Buledi was born on 8 August 1976 in Mehnaz (Buleda), Kech, a historic but little-known village, to Muhammad Usman and Khair Bibi. After receiving his early education in his native area, he moved to Karachi for higher education and completed his matriculation there. Because of financial difficulties he could not continue his education and went to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in search of work, where he first worked in a bank and later started his own business. During his stay in the UAE he came into contact with Baloch political and intellectual activists, and so became practically involved in the Baloch national movement.

The statement said that at the start of the twenty-first century, when Balochistan’s political landscape changed and student and mass politics took on a clear ideological direction, Shaukat Buledi could not stay apart from this intellectual revolution. After the martyrdom of his brother-in-law, Altaf Baloch, he returned to the homeland and became active in mass politics. Altaf Baloch was targeted in Kech during a public rally of the Baloch National Front (BNF) on the death anniversary of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.

After returning to the homeland, Shaukat Buledi took a full part in practical politics through the platform of the Baloch National Movement (BNM). He was elected president of the BNM Kech region and was elected a member of the party’s central committee twice in a row, at the 2010 and 2014 central council sessions. He played a key role in organising the party at regional and national level and in sharpening the movement intellectually.

Describing his services in journalism and literature, the spokesperson said Shaukat Buledi laid the foundation of the intellectual and media front quietly and anonymously. He established “Sangar Publications”, under which he launched the monthly “Sangar Magazine”, “Radio Sangar” (in digital form) and the “Daily Sangar” (online newspaper), to bring the untold stories of the oppressed Baloch nation before the world.

State repression forced him into exile, but despite exile, illness and the enemy’s attempts to kill him (including being wounded in assassination attempts in 2024), he did not step back from his national duty. Finally, amid suspicions of poisoning and after a long illness, he died in a hospital abroad on 5 October 2025.

At the end of its statement, BSO Azad said quiet, unsung and sincere revolutionary figures like Shaukat Buledi are the true heroes of the Baloch nation, who worked for the national cause until their last breath. The organisation urged all Baloch journalists and writers to take up this guiding torch of truth, thought and national awareness and carry Shaukat Buledi’s mission forward.
