The Baloch Students Action Committee said in a statement that it strongly condemns the police raid on a book stall in Hyderabad and the confiscation of books.
The spokesperson said that today, while the world is reaching new heights of progress through new technology, we are still at the point where we are so afraid of book stalls that we are not even ready to accept them. Here, research, creativity and the progress born of them are still not only blocked, but those who, on their own initiative, try to spread the light of knowledge by embracing something as great as the book are arrested along with their books.
The spokesperson said the police raid on a JSSF book stall in Naseem Nagar, Hyderabad, Sindh, and the arrest of students along with their books, amounts to blocking the path of awareness and knowledge. On the one hand the literacy rate and the standard of quality education have long been in decline here; on the other, bans on such academic activities and book stalls further accelerate this decline. This practice creates the impression that we want to run away from knowledge and awareness, which is worrying.
The statement said we not only condemn this illegal raid on the book stall but also demand that the institutions concerned take strict action against anyone involved in sabotaging academic activities. It must also be ensured that there are no bans on book stalls and other academic activities, because this is not just a matter of one stall; it shows the attitude of this society and the state of its intellectual development.
